When did you start working at Clínica Dental Bona?
I am one of the founders, so from the beginning of 2016. The start was with my best friend Lara, who is also a dentist, we studied together at school and college in Madrid and decided to open the clinic; due to personal-family circumstances she had to spend more time in Madrid and I could not continue with the project.
What qualities should a good dentist have?
The ability to listen to patients and have extensive training to diagnose correctly and make the best decision for, with, and alongside the patient is crucial. I believe manual skills improve over the years, but continually attending advanced training courses enhances diagnostic abilities and treatment resources. Without this training, the work we do in our clinic today wouldn’t be as precise or efficient.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I enjoy spending time with family and friends. Sports are essential for me daily as they give me more energy and make me happier. I do amateur running and gym workouts, and I participate in some 5-10 km and mountain races. On weekends, I go hiking with my wife, and we plan our trips around mountains, a hobby she introduced me to. Travelling is a classic activity we all enjoy, whether with my wife or friends. I also belong to a gastronomic group called “In the Week.” We meet every 10 days during the week to discover a new restaurant in Alicante. A simple plan I enjoy is going to the cinema with popcorn or heading to the beach in winter with a book and a beach chair.
What do you like most about working at Clínica Dental Bona?
I like a good work environment, having the best technology, and seeing patients happy when their treatments are complete. What makes me most proud is the continuous growth of the clinic. Treatments that once took weeks to complete are now finished in half the time, with greater precision and aesthetics. Progress and evolution are what I enjoy most about working at the clinic.
Do you remember a patient or treatment with special fondness from these years?
It’s hard to pick just one case, but perhaps the complete smile makeovers stand out. Working with patients for 3-6 months to achieve good conclusions and aesthetics and witnessing their transformation from before to after is very rewarding. Also, helping patients who are going through a difficult time and improving their smile often significantly boosts their mood.
What makes Clínica Dental Bona different from other clinics?
Three pillars set us apart, which are also the reasons I enjoy coming to the clinic. First, professionals who are constantly learning and evolving. Second, cutting-edge technology – being among the first to have the latest technology in the market to offer the most precise treatments. Third, a loyal team – having the same team for the past eight years is a key differentiator.
Who have been the most important people to your professional development?
During my teenage years and youth, my mother, especially, as well as my father and stepfather, were fundamental. I don’t have close relatives who are dentists, but they guided and supported me financially through my studies. During my degree, I am deeply grateful to Dr Cintia Brea, who allowed me to shadow her in her clinic. Years later, I collaborated with her, and now she is not only a colleague but also a great friend. After finishing my degree, I’m grateful to Dr Carlos Ivorra and Dr Carlos Martínez, especially the former, who brought me into his clinic, guided me, and always supported me. Since opening my clinic, my wife, Cristina, who is also a dentist, has been by my side through everything – none of this would be possible without her. Over the years, the two people I consider role models as individuals and professionals, and from whom I’ve gained the most through their training, are Dr Ramón Gómez Meda and Dr Jacobo Somoza.
